We do not inherit the earth from our ancestors, we borrow it from our children.
Today's earth-consciousness combines the poetry of John Muir with the political acumen of Rachel Carson. It is exemplified in the activities of former Vice President and Nobel laureate Al Gore, who stresses the moral and political basis of environmental action.
The Hatherleigh Foundation seeks to foster this kind of dual thinking about environmental issues. The Hatherleigh Foundation promotes projects that advocate earth-friendly regulations (Clean Water initiatives; the preservation of opens spaces; animal rights) while linking those regulations very directly to everyday practices (such as school programs, experiential educational opportunities like Outward Bound, and general public awareness). The Hatherleigh Foundation maintains that environmental action, to be truly significant and lasting, must also lead to positive social change.
