The Hatherleigh Foundation supports initiatives in the areas of education, technological innovation, and media through The Frederic Flach, MD Angel Fund.

Frederic Flach, MD, KCHS (1927-2006) was an internationally recognized physician and author, Dr. Frederic Flach devoted more than 45 years of private practice, scientific research, and teaching to understanding depression and the role of resilience in individual psychology. He combined his professional responsibilities and interests with a dedication to community service, patient advocacy, continuing education and charity.

A graduate of St. Peter's College and Cornell University Medical School, Dr. Flach was Adjunct Associate Professor of Psychiatry at Cornell University Medical School. He was an Attending Psychiatrist at both the Payne Whitney Clinic of the New York Hospital and St. Vincent's Hospital and Medical Center.

In addition to numerous articles in scientific journals and several major textbooks, Dr. Flach has also authored a number of highly acclaimed books, including: Resilience, The Secret Strength of Depression, Rickie, The Secret Strength of Angels, and Faith, Healing and Miracles.

For 26 years, Dr. Flach served as Program Director and Editor-in-Chief of the Directions in Psychiatry Continuing Medical Education program. He was also Founding Editor-in-Chief of the journal Essential Psychopharmacology.

For his lifelong involvement in issues of mental illness and community outreach, Dr. Flach was honored in 1996 with the Maxine Mason Award by the National Alliance for the Mentally Ill (NAMI). Three years later, he was Knighted into the Equestrian Order of the Holy Sepulcher of Jerusalem.
